'Despicable Me' to spin off with Minions

(LOS ANGELES-Relaxnews) - With the sequel to the popular movie Despicable Me coming in July 2013, a spin-off film is also in the works featuring the adorable little yellow creatures The Minions, reports Deadline Hollywood.
The pill-shaped Minions were favorites in the animated hit comedy Despicable Me, which made more than $540 million and is the 10th biggest animated film ever.
The lovable bad guy character Gru returns in Despicable Me 2 with the little girls and scene-stealing Minions, voiced by Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand and Al Pacino.
The spin-off is untitled, so far, but director Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me) will co-direct with Kyle Balda (The Lorax). Brian Lynch (Puss in Boots) wrote the screenplay but no storyline has been released for the speechless Minions.
Production of both films will allow the Minions' movie to be released in 2014.
The Minions have their own amusement park ride at Universal Studios Florida.
The Penguins of Madagascar are also to be featured in a spin-off, due out in 2015, it was announced at Comic-Con.
