Review: 'The Expendables 2'

Director: Simon West
Who is in it: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, Nan Yu.
What is it about: Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy payback mission, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for vengeance puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.
Why we like it: Classic macho man styled movie with big men, big guns, big explosions, and big impact. None of those excessive talking that some movies tend to have. People walk in to see an action movie because they expect loads of action and this movie really delivers. We really like the new Mortal Kombat styled bloodshed in this sequel compared to the first movie; it's a small touch that actually makes the movie way more awesome. We also enjoyed the constant self-trolling the cast do to themselves, with 'Terminator' references for Arnold Schwarzenegger and the whole badass reference for Chuck Norris. Oh, and Van Damme still pulls off his spinning kicks wonderfully.
Why we don't: Nan Yu's acting wasn't that convincing; it did get better as the movie progressed but still it seemed like she didn't really fit in well with the team. We would've also liked to see more of Jet Li than watching his replacement in action.
Verdict: Action movie lovers will definitely love this one. It has all the elements of a great action movie: great action, good laughs, amazing fight choreography and realistic bloodshed effects. If you are one who doesn't do well with blood, consider yourself warned because this movie is filled with it in almost each scene. Plus, there's the long-awaited showdown between Stallone and Van Damme. Well worth the wait, too.
