Review: ‘Bourne Legacy’

Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz's incredible onscreen chemistry, plus the always-awesome Edward Norton bring the 'Bourne' franchise to a new level

Bourne Legacy (© UIP)

Director: Tony Gilroy

Who's in it: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton

What's it about: After the events of Bourne Ultimatum, the CIA decides to eliminate all of their black ops programs, including the termination of their field agents. Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), an agent from Outcome, escapes being terminated and, with the help of Outcome scientist Dr. Marta Shearling (Rachel Weisz), finds a way to cut himself from having to take medication to maintain his form while running from Eric Byer (Edward Norton) and LARX #1 (Louis Ozawa Changchien).

Why we like it: The chemistry being Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz is somewhat amazing. It is impossible to leave Bourne Legacy without wanting more of this on-screen couple. The movie runs for about 2 hours but there isn't a time where we wonder if it was ending soon or not. In fact, we were kind of disappointed that it ended so soon because we really wanted more.

Why we don't: The movie has one of the weakest antagonists ever. Every obstacle that Aaron Cross faced was easily fended off with plain simple brawl and run moves. Many of the action scenes were too shaky to even digest what happened. The ending was so sudden it took us awhile to realise the movie was actually over.

Verdict: Good concept to continue the Bourne franchise without affecting the previous movies. Decent action scenes without a lot of spying involved. Expect scene after scene of flashbacks and memories, so be prepared. Oh, make sure you watched the previous Bourne flicks before you watch this.

Rating: 3.5 (out of 5) stars
