"The film will be really tough, really nasty," says Scott, who wanted two things: a budget of $250m and an R-rating. Studio 20th Century Fox weren't keen on spending that much. Lindelof's script brought the budget down to $160m - the screenwriter says the film will capture a feeling somewhere between Alien and Blade Runner, a movie that's most visceral and cerebral. Scott will make two versions, PG-13 and R-rated, and show both to Fox. We'll find out how far he's been allowed to go on 1 June. His ultimate goal? "To scare the living s*** out of you."
