It's not just all about the stadium-sized concerts anymore; sometimes a cosy club makes for a good formula, plus catchy pop-punk bands like Boys Like Girls and Motion City Soundtrack too! Rockawayfest has been teasing fans this year with a couple of international acts, namely Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional, who gave us a memorably acoustic performance night as its first installment, followed by Canadian rockers Sum 41 in the second installment.

Following closely on are American bands Boys Like Girls (who's been gracing our shores a couple of times now) and first-timers on our soil, Motion City Soundtrack. Local bands Lab The Rat, The Azenders and An Honest Mistake opened for the bands and all this took place at Club Neverland, KL, a few stops away from Pavilion Mall.

Family band Lab The Rat opened the show to rousing cheers, as a heavily pregnant Shahirah shared the floor with fellow bandmate/husband Syarul Reza and members Syaril, Nick, Kech, Achik. Their sunny power-pop tunes proved to be popular with the crowd, just reminiscence of a mix between Sixpence None The Richer and The Magic Numbers.

The second local band to take the stage was An Honest Mistake, and we've gotta say, they interacted well with their fans, with their buzzing energy and high spirit. It was a great mix coming from our capable Malaysian bands and they've definitely shown the guests that night, that we're not short of talents.

Rock band The Azenders got some major love too, but what irked us was lead vocalist Sam's 'tude and the lack of voice control. We totally dig the tight band's arrangement though...

Boston-hailed Motion City Soundtrack sauntered on stage and kicked off 'Circuits & Wires', their new track taken off their fifth album, 'Go'. The 90s indie band, who was thrusted into the limelight with their Blink 182's Mark Hoppus-produced album 'Commit This To Memory', also played popular tracks like 'The Worst Is Yet To Come', 'My Favourite Accident' and 'Disappear'. Lead singer Justin, with his trademark messed-up hair, didn't forget to thank fans a couple of times for 'being here tonight' and was very comfortable on stage with Jesse, Joshua Cain, Matthew and Tony. The band ended their 16-song set with 'Hold Me Down', 'Everything Is Alright' and 'The Future Freaks Me Out'.

Boys Like Girls, were the reason why some of the young fans in the crowd were screaming their hearts out; 'The Great Escape', being one of their most popular tracks, was their first song and that propelled a thundering cheer from the floor. Charming and at eased, Martin Johnson, Paul DiGiovanni, Morgan Dorr and John Keefe made sure they covered their hit singles 'Boyfriend', 'Thunder' and 'Two Is Better'. For encore, the band played 'First Time' and 'Love Drunk', to end their 12-song set.
