The Singaporean songstress won Best Female Mandarin Singer while rock group Mayday made a clean sweep of the major awards

All eyes were on the 23rd Golden Melody Awards -- the Taiwanese equivalent of the Grammys -- last Saturday, held at the Taipei Arena, Taiwan, as many anticipated not only the crowning of the Best Male and Female Singers of the year, but also the reunion of Taiwanese girl group S.H.E on stage.

The awards ceremony was also broadcast live on video-sharing platform YouTube for the first time.

Singaporean singer Tanya Chua was nominated in a total of seven categories, including Best Song of the Year, Best Album and Best Mandarin Female Singer, for her latest album Sing It Out Of Love.

The 37-year-old might have lost out on most of the awards, but she scored big when she was crowned the Best Mandarin Female Singer at the end of the night. This marked Tanya's third win in this particular category, having won before in 2006 and 2008.

During her acceptance speech on stage, a sobbing Tanya thanked her mother, also present at the awards ceremony, and her late father, who passed away last year.

The Best Mandarin Male Singer went to Taiwanese singer Luantan Ascent, who beat out strong contenders like Eason Chen, Jay Chou, Yoga Lin and Jam Hsiao.

The biggest winners of the night were Taiwanese band Mayday, who bagged a total of six trophies for their latest album Second Round, with 'Nuo Ya Fang Zhou' winning the Best Song of the Year.
