Malaysian stars Norman Hakim and Memey Suhaiza tied the knot in perhaps the most lavish celebrity wedding of the year (so far), costing a whopping RM12 million.
The groom wore a suit from Lords Tailor worth RM10,000 but it was really his bride who stole the show in her RM500,000 dress fitted with Rafflesia pearls and Jimmy Choo heels encrusted with more Rafflesia pearls.
The couple clearly went all out with Rafflesia (or is it the other way 'round?) as even the wedding cake and cupcakes for guests were adorned with pearls.
Held at the Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel in Kuala Lumpur last Wednesday (September 28th), the grand ceremony was themed 'New York in black and white' and hosted by Winnie Sin, director of Rafflesia The Pearl Centre and designed by celebrity wedding planner Bill Bora.
Names on the star-studded guest list include Datuk Jimmy Choo, Chef Wan, Fauziah Latiff, Kilafairy, Marsha, Syafinaz, Sazzy Falak, Fazley Zainal, Dynas Mokhtar, Fizz Fairuz, Yasmin Hani, Sharifah Shahira, Didie Alias, and top Indonesian actor Samuel Rizal.
Norman and Memey's extravagant wedding, however, drew criticism from Chef Wan, who took to his Facebook page and said it was "a wedding that Rafelessia organised to promote their products non stop the entire evening as I expected too comercialised that it ruined the event for all the guests I have spoken [sic].
"Both Pengantin just play their game since its being sponsored. There nothing wrong with that except it served the purposed to used the Pengantin as their so call model la [sic]"
Norman and Memey's relationship first emerged as a scandal when the actor was still married to actress Abby Abadi. Although Abby was invited to the wedding, she told reporters that she declined to attend the ceremony. Norman and Abby have 3 young children together.
