Two of Bollywood's biggest stars, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, have tied the knot in in what has been dubbed India's wedding of the year.

Actor Khan, 42, wedded actress Kapoor, 32, in a quiet affair at Khan's residence in Munbai's Bandra area on Tuesday afternoon. The union has long been the subject of frenzied media speculation in the movie-mad country.

 

The couple, India's answer to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, had ben dating for five years and appeared together in this year's spy flick "Agent Vinod". They both come from illustrious families and have established links to the movie business, with Kareena's grandfather a cinematic legend and many relatives being well-known names within the local movie industry.

A private pre-wedding "sangeet" party was held on Sunday at Kapoor's Mumbai residence. Only close friends and family of the couple made it to the invite list of this private affair.

 

The sangeet party saw Kareena wearing a traditional orange lehenga with a golden blouse designed by one of Bollywood's most successful fashion designers, Manish Malhotra.
