In the early 1970s Elton teamed up with writer Bernie Taupin and began writing material for various artists including Lulu and Roger Cook.
For two years, John and Taupin wrote easy listening tunes for popular singers of the time. During this period John became a session musician for other artists, playing piano on The Hollies He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother.
