Review By Lester Gan Wai Lun
"You Are The Apple Of My Eye" is based on a true romance story that took place back when the novelist/director Jiubadao was still known by his real name, Giddens Ko. This highly anticipated movie is definitely a must watch for Jiubadao's readers and others who are keen on youthful jokes.
The character Ko-teng played by actor Ko Chen-tung, is just like the average teenage boy whose life is all about hanging out with school buddies and doing stupid things. Ko-teng is constantly puzzled as to why his classmates have a crush on Shen Chia-yi, an honour student in their class. But when their teacher asks Shen to watch over the little rascal, they eventually fall for one another. The story plays out like any typical romance plot, but what makes it more exciting than other films alike is the fact that this story is true and something we can relate to.
The cast was well selected, Ko Chen-tung and Shen Chia-yi both portrayed high level of energy and had a very youthful feel to it which made the story that much more believable. Humour wise it kept going back to the same topic which was male sex organs, while jokes about penis can get a little tiring at times, but one can't help but laughing when it is brought up.
In conclusion, the success of the novel/director Jiubadao wrote has been completely transferred in a successful film as well. Bringing the older generations back to their lost past, and also providing the youths of today something to enjoy. Raking in more than NT $20 million in Taiwan, the amount speaks for itself.
