Exciting New Albums To Cop
By Kevin Yeoh Jun 15, 2012 10:44AM
Music is coming out as fast as your order at the fast food joint these days. By the time this comes out, it’s either we’re still waiting for the album, it’s almost coming out or it has just been released. I’d like to remind you of the new albums I'm excited about and possibly will be making a lot of noise this year.
Chris Brown- Fortune
This will be the pop R&B artiste’s fifth album and we have already witnessed the amazing lead single “Turn Up The Music”. He has also released three more singles “Sweet Love”, “Till I Die” and “Don’t Wake Me Up” off Fortune as well. Despite all the controversy that has surrounded him, Chris Brown has definitely stepped back up and proved himself to be a leading act in the music scene. Expect collaborations with Big Sean, Asher Roth, The Underdogs, Polow da Don, That Bizness, Danja, Benny Benassi, William Orbit and more!
Fiona Apple- The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do
The queen of heartbreaks, Fiona Apple is back and has one of the longest album titles ever. She released the first single “Every Single Night” and received good reviews for her return. It’s good to see she is staying true to her art and it’s good to hear that amazing voice again. People like Lana Del Rey have been compared to Fiona Apple, and now the world can finally hear the truth behind the originator of heavy lyrics and impactful tunes. Fiona Apple is more than just a hype.
Usher- Looking 4 Myself
Usher has come a long way since his first number one single “Nice & Slow” on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1998. He went on to give us smash hits like “Yeah” and “OMG” after that. Now he’s back with Looking 4 Myself and already spawned a big hit single “Climax” produced by Diplo. Other producers on the album includes Swedish House Mafia, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin, Salaam Remi, The Neptunes, Danja, Max Martin and will.i.am. Usher is constantly reinventing himself to be one of the hottest male artistes and he’s so good at it.
Nelly Furtado- The Spirit Indestructible
The whimsical artist who gave us songs like “Fly Like A Bird”, “Turn Off The Lights”, "Maneater" and “Promiscious Girl” is back. Grammy Award-winning Nelly Furtado will be teaming up with Rodney Jerkins, Salaam Remi, Mike Angelakos, Bob Rock, Fraser T. Smith, Di Genius, The Demolition Crew, John Shanks and even Tiësto for her fifth studio album. We have already heard the very interesting first single “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)” and we can’t wait to hear what other innovative tunes she will be giving us. Nelly Furtado never shy away from trying new sounds, which is why The Spirit Indestructibe is going to be one exciting release.
Passion Pit- Gossamer
Passion Pit is one of the most exciting electropop acts in recent years and fans are thrilled to hear they are releasing a new album soon. With high expectations after their hit single “Sleepyhead” from the first album Manners in 2009, we can expect some good energetic and spastic pop rolled into one. Passion Pit is known for creating new sounds and the band had said it will be “expansive”, so I'm thrilled to see the return of Passion Pit into the scene again.
Justin Bieber- Believe
Whether you love or hate him, he will always be around. When news dropped that Justin Bieber will be working with the likes of Mike Posner, Hit-Boy, Babyface, Rodney Jerkins, Diplo, Max Martin and Bei Maejor, we were definitely curious. The lead single “Boyfriend” got us excited to see how the Biebs have grown. The album will also feature rap acts like Ludacris, Nicki Minaj and Drake. Don’t expect the little kid voice you heard on his debut single “Baby”. It is time for Justin Bieber, the grown man, to take over. Don't be surprised if you hear some dubstep on this album.
Linkin Park- Living Things
Linkin Park popped into the scene in 2000 and smashed the radio with songs like “One Step Closer”, “Papercut”, “Crawling” and “In The End” from their debut album Hyprid Theory. Since then, the rock band has won two Grammy Awards so far and is unstoppable. Living Things is said to be a throwback to the sounds they have made and stepping forward with their art. The album will be produced by band member Mike Shinoda and the legendary Rick Rubin. The lead single “Burn It Down” is less intense than the stuff Linkin Park is known for, but still great nevertheless. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album already.
