Hannah Tan
After announcing her plans to set up base in Japan in January 2009, Hannah recently signed a two-year production deal with Japanese label Fillmore Far East Inc. Worth a whopping RM6 million, this regional distribution deal will see the completion of five J-pop albums in two years.
The historic deal will also see Hannah – who released her debut album ‘Crossing Bridges’ in 2005 – collaborating with one of Japan’s most renowned composers, together with the production of promotional music videos and a website dedicated to fans in the Far East.
“I feel really honoured,” said Hannah. “Although we’ve worked very hard as a team, this contract with Japan is only the beginning of the load! We still have a long, long way to go.”
Fillmore Far East chief executive officer Yoji Hayakawa said the company was looking for an Asian artiste to promote in Japan and the 28-year-old stood out from the rest because of her strong influence among the Asian pop-culture market, fast-growing web presence, humility and positive attitude, as well as her burning determination and drive for excellence.
Hayakawa also revealed that the company would get Hannah to begin formal Japanese lessons and voice training in Japan beginning next year.
Hannah’s first album under Fillmore Far East Inc. is scheduled to be released sometime in June or July in Japan next year and the album will also subsequently be released in Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore.
