Local concert-goers were rocked to the core Saturday (15.08.2009) when international acts such as The All-American Rejects, Hoobastank, Boys Like Girls and Pixie Lott performed at the first-ever MTV World Stage “Live In Malaysia” concert held at Sunway Lagoon Resort.

The event saw 15,000 concert revelers braving the rain hours before the show and as a reward, they were treated to outstanding live performances by the international and local acts. MTV VJs Utt, Denise Keller, Taya Rogers, Andy and Sean hosted the event.

Local favourites Estranged kicked off the show by performing their latest hit single ‘Slave in Us’. The award-winning rockers then performed two Malay rock songs, ‘Ketika Ini’ and ‘Yang Pernah’, closing their set with ‘In No Time’ and setting the mood for a head-banging night.

Massachusetts band Boys Like Girls took the stage next and the band wasted no time in winning over the crowd as they belted out hit singles such as ‘Love Drunk’, ‘Hero/Heroine’, ‘Thunder’ and they closed their slot by performing ‘The Great Escape’ – a Malaysian fan-favourite.

Music scene newcomers Raygun then took the stage and made new fans as they gave an electrifying performance of their lead single ‘Just Because’. The British rock band captivated the audience with a four-song repertoire showcasing the unique vocal styling and glam rock moves of lead singer, Ray Gun.  It was Raygun’s first ever performance in Asia.

The only female solo performer at the MTV World Stage, 18-year-old British pop princess Pixie Lott came on after Raygun. With her sweet, bubblegum pop demeanor, Pixie mellowed down the evening with a three-song performance: upcoming single ‘Turn It Up,’ current chart-climber ‘Boys and Girls’ and then her #1 hit, ‘Mama Do.’
