Alt Media – a division of Media Prima – officially launched the 8TV Mobile service Wednesday (05.08.2009). The first-of-its-kind mobile TV service in South East Asia, 8TV Mobile streams full episodes of the top 10 TV series from the urban TV channel, directly to mobile phones.
Among some of the programs which will be streamed include 8TV favourites Blogger Boy, Project NS, 8TV Quickie, 8TV Mandarin News, I Wanna Be A Model 3, A Cup of Love and Ho Chak just to name a few. The shows will be available on 8TV Mobile approximately 6 hours after they are broadcasted on TV. Apart from the daily shows, TV schedules and exclusive feature programs are also available via 8TV Mobile.
“Being a progressive TV network, we are very excited about 8TV going mobile as it is an innovative and revolutionary move. We have always believed in being the first in exploring new ideas and this is something that is key to our target audience,” said Lam Swee Kim, general Manager of 8TV.
Lam also added that the free mobile streaming service is essentially an extension of the popular online Catch-Up TV service available through Wi-Fi and 3G/Edge networks.
